“It’s time to look into the eye of the tiger and say I WILL BEAT THIS AND WIN!”

Welcome to our reality podcast, with Eric O’Grey in Spokane, Washington coaching Shmulik Shwartz in Lehavim, Israel to lose 140 pounds in 10 months so the two can run the Jerusalem marathon together in March 2017!

We’re checking in with our friend Shmulik today. Unfortunately, Shmulik has had a small setback the past week with his weight loss progress based on the holidays in Israel, and Eric has to deliver a pep talk and communicate some tough love to get him back on track for maximum results. Join us!

What you’ll hear in this episode:

  • Not a good week: slight weight GAIN for Shmulik
  • Why the weight gain?
    • Shmulik admits to a small “breakdown.”
    • Shmulik ate holiday foods that he didn’t prepare himself.
    • Shmulik ate MORE and exercised LESS during the holiday month
    • On the bright side, Shmulik stayed strong and did NOT eat any animal products!
  • Eric explains why the results MUST be accelerated to accomplish the goals intended by this podcast partnership and why TIME is short.
  • Will Shmulik be able to succeed?
  • Shmulik MUST start running soon to prepare for the marathon, but doing so at a higher weight will put excess strain on joints, especially his injury-prone ankles.
  • Shmulik gives an update on his ankle injury.
  • Eric encourages “bikejoring” and explains this form of exercise.
  • Eric’s advice is to visualize the optimized Shmulik with a recommitment and fresh start.
  • Back to the basics for Shmulik:
    • Exercise twice daily to reduce appetite and stimulate weight loss.
    • Use a bicycle, not running, for the next two weeks.
    • Prepare foods with NO OIL (oil doubles the calorie content and increases plaque in the arteries).
    • ZERO breads and nuts (they are too calorie-dense to consume when the main goal is to maximize weight loss).
    • Eat whole plant foods that satisfy and make you feel full: potatoes, rice, legumes, greens, and vegetables.
    • Prepare foods by “steam-frying” with water or broth instead of oil.
    • Use spices and herbs for flavor.
